Julia Fiona Roberts' parents are Walter Grady Roberts and Betty Lou Bredemus. Roberts is from the fourth generation of Roberts family who lived in Atlanta. This began with her great-grandfather John Pendleton Roberts who was a farm. She inherited her father's interest in the theatre at a young time. When he was a student at Emory University he appeared in various productions both at and off campus. He joined the Air Force in 1953. During his time working in Biloxi Mississippi was cast in the military's production, which featured Betty Lou Bredemus who was part of the air force. The couple got married in 1955, and their first son Eric Anthony was born in 1956. Walter was studying at Tulane University, New Orleans Louisiana. In 1957, the couple were discharged from the air force and Walter began studying at Tulane. Walter began working for Atlanta Academy Theater and Harrington Scenic and Lighting Studio in 1960. Walter along with Betty Lou began producing a television show for children in the city of Decatur, Georgia titled Bum Bum and His Buddies. They funded the show by themselves. Later that year they founded the Actors and Writers Workshop which operated for six years. Lelisa Billingsley often referred to as Lisa was born in the year 1965. Julia Billingsley followed in 1967.
